A trade card for Edmund Sagot depicting a street scene with a woman in evening
dress in the foreground, a dog by her side and a board on her back advertising Sagot's
by Swiss artist, Richard Ranft (1862-1931). Edmund Sagot opened a Paris bookshop in
1861, dealing in rare and contemporary prints. He was the first art dealer to add
illustrated posters to his inventory. To advertise the printmakers whose work he
published, he would commission posters and mailers by his artists.
