Le Courrier Français, founded and edited by Jules Roques, was a satirical French
illustrated weekly with sections on literature, fine arts, theater, medicine and
finance. It ran from 1884 to 1914. This sketch depicts a man and woman holding a card
with Roque's name and "Directeur du Courrier Français" written on it. The woman has a
military coat draped over her shoulders and the man holds a top hat in his left hand
with ribbons flowing from it which are the colors of the French flag. The artist for the
card is Adolphe Willette (1857-1926).
