Flood-Barge Canal in Whitehall, N.Y. [Handwritten back caption] (1front) [c0071ac1]
-
Description
-
Approximately two-thirds of the card (from the bottom) shows a canal, apparently flooded, with a [presumably] houseboat in the foreground, whose reflection is visible in the water. In the background, a metal bridge connects a piece of land on the right, on which three wooden houses and one smaller structure are clearly visible, to an unknown destination outside the frame of the postcard, to the left. The top third of the card shows a wooded hill, with a village on the lower part of the hill, on the bank of the canal. At least two steeples can be seen rising from the village. Nine parallel utility wires can be seen in the foreground, rising slightly from right to left. There are no leaves on the trees, suggesting fall or winter. The card is black-and-white, but has yellowed slightly with age.
