Pictorial bookplate, within a circular border, inscribed in the upper-half: "Travail et erpargne \ bonheur et liberte \ abandon et misere \ malheur et anarchie". Depicts a central female figure standing atop steps, with her head framed by a circular border within which is the word "Fraternite". She is extending one hand to help two orphans ascend the steps, and extending the other palm outward toward two adults (a seated woman and a blacksmith, standing beside an anvil). Below the steps is a banner which reads: "Association pour le Placement en Apprentissage d'Orphelins," and below that banner is inscribed "Fondée en MDCCCXXIX". Outside of the circular border, separate from the image, is inscribed: "Bibliothèque du Patronage de l'Association". The name of the artist and the date are visible between the first and second step.
