Building a boat near Ellenville, New York [front caption] (1front) [d0108ac1]
-
Description
-
A view of a large boat in the process of construction, standing on a platform on a raised embankment near a canal, which flows between two embankments or landings, by a tree and grass covered hillside. There are animals, horses or mules, and a man standing by the boat, with a ladder reaching up to the boat. Piles of lumber and debris are scattered on both grassy embankments, with the first nearest embankment covered with a pile of lumber and a small pole, with some more individual pieces of lumber placed horizontally, in a train track design. These may be [presumably] "locks" used in hydraulic engineering or a platform. A second boat or cargo boat is floating on the canal, carrying covered lumber. A woman dressed in white and men onboard can be seen. On the hillside, utility poles with long electric wires attached can also faintly be seen. There is white spot on the bottom right corner of the card of unknown origin, which may be due to age, fading or damage. A white border runs around the edges of this black and white postcard.

Dock St., Schenectady, New York [front caption] (1front) [e0091ac1]
-
Description
-
A couple stands on the cobblestone towpath beside the Erie Canal in Schenectady, New York. The "Dock Street" area depicted here appears to be of mixed-use. Presumably, a hotel and a brewery are visible in the background, while the couple stands next to a building with a distinctly residential feel. Some color is chipping off of the postcard on all four corners, but most damaged is the bottom left - where the largest portion of the brown paper backing is showing through.

Laden barge with woman at tiller passing under railroad truss bridge (1front) [c0061ac1]
-
Description
-
Barge, being pulled by a tugboat barely visible in front, passing under the shadow of a railroad truss bridge. There is a woman in kerchief and long skirt at the tiller, viewed from the stern. The top right of the stern board is visible with the second half of the barge's name; it appears to be "Murray." There are men visible on the railroad bridge and there appears to be a railroad passenger car on the bridge at the extreme right of the frame. Quite a bit of detail is visible of the barge's aft cabin and surrounding deck. The cargo is not fully visible, but appears to be two metal vessels, tanks, or machines with a hatch visible on one, and smokestacks or what resembles a submarine conning tower on the other.
