Steamer "Berkshire," Hudson River, New York [front caption] (1front) [h0015ac1]
-
Description
-
The steamer Berkshire, under way on the Hudson River on a fair day; the designation "HUDSON NAVIGATION COMPANY" can be read at the bow. A large sign can barely be made out on the bank of the river behind; it appears to read "PALISADES AMUSEMENT PARK" and might be the park of the same or similar name in Bergen County, New Jersey, which dates from this period and is similarly situated. While much of the scene is in color, the passengers on deck, barely visible, are in black and white, suggesting that this print may have been hand-colored from a black and white photograph. The image bears the imprint of the postmarking process. Printing information: card number (P.61694) [indicated on front only]. Blank space around edges of card.
