Image used to illustrate "Lithography," subsection "Rubbing Style." Print is reproduction of Hébert's painting Mal'aria now in Musée d'Orsay. Print likely from a book of prints published in Les Peintres Vivants, "a series of one hundred etchings and lithographs executed after Ingres, Diaz, Delacroix, Couture etc, accompanied by a text written by Arsène Houssaye, Théophile Gautier and Paul Mantz. Two volumes were issued, the first of which was published in 1852" (see British Museum record for "L'Odalisque / Les peintres vivants," museum number 1982,U.1861). Print likely produced after painting's exhibit in 1850 Salon (see An Italian Chronicle: Drawings by Ernest Hébert (1817-1908), exhibition 23 June - 15 September 1992, Musée d'Orsay). Plate misbound in physical copy, placed here in correct sequence.
